Yes. Ask that question to a "bodybuilder" or a "weightlifter" and you will get a load of an response. While it is accurate that bodybuilders and weightlifters will train with weights - they are two distinctly different activities, with two varying and distinct goals in mind, in particular when we are relating to them on the professional or semi-professional competitive level.

A weightlifter on the other hand is chiefly concerned the strength in the specific areas of their competition. Putting it in other words, the muscles most important during a Snatch or Deadlift competition. However the competitive bodybuilder, winning a competition has nothing to do with your strength or how much you can lift, but your muscular appearance. Most of the muscles on a competitive bodybuilder most certainly look symmetrical, and in proper proportion, therefore bodybuilders try to out all muscle parts of the body evenly.

However, the discussion how significant it is to clearly recognizeyour ultimate goals as to why you are lifting weights. Are you looking to improve physique? Maximize your strength and stamina? Possibly a little of both? If you are not a competitor, it matters less what you call yourself, then what you hope to achieve with weightlifting. When you know what you hope to get out of a weightlifting program you can then craft a specific series of routines, exercises and lifestyle changes to attain your goals. Bodybuilding
