Rose Hip Seed Oil is from the seeds of a native wild rose that grows in southern Chile.
It has been used for centuries in South America for its remarkable healing, moisturizing and rejuvenating qualities. It aids cell regeneration, boost levels of collagen and elastin, creating a smoother, firmer skin. It also helps to reduce pigmentation, raised scars and stretch marks by promoting healthy skin renewal – it is effective even on old scars. When applied to the skin daily it protects from free radical damage, associated with the harmful influence of sun, weather and aging.
Rosehip oil contains high levels of essential fatty acids: oleic, linoleic, and linolenic, which help maintain healthy skin, act as anti-inflammatory and nourish the skin with lipids that are necessary to fortify the outer skin barrier and protect the body from the penetration of allergens and toxins. Linoleic and Linoleic acids increase the level of water pressure in the skin (known as turgor) improving the efficacy of the skin barrier.
Rose hip oil is also a natural source of trans-retinoic acid (a natural precursor of vitamin A) and acts as a keratolityc which ditches dead cells and speeds skin turnover, as trans-retinoic-acid in prescription drugs but without any of their side effects.
It was first studied in 1983 by a team of researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacology at the University of Concepcion in Chile, to evaluate the oil’s effect in the skin regeneration process. During the two-year study, the oil was applied to 180 patients with surgical scars, injury scars and post-burn scars, as well as to a group suffering from premature aging. It was found that Rosehip Oil produced an effective regenerative action on the skin, helping to attenuate scars and wrinkles, preventing advancement of premature aging, and regaining lost color and tone.
Helix Aspersa Müller glycoconjugates is a skin adaptogen secreted from within the cells of snails of the species Helix Aspersa Müller to shield its fragile exposed skin from the sun’s rays, and to keep its skin moist and hydrated. This restorative fluid not only protects the snail’s skin from harm, it actually helps the snail regenerate its own shell if it is ever crushed or broken, and even more: also repairs and restores the funcional capacity of its tentacles, eyes and mouth if bitten by birds. The secretion also has antimicrobial properties to help protect the snail from bacteria. As a result, snails never suffer from skin infections – can you imagine?
The glycoconjugates restore healthy skin, safely and naturally!
Due to the remarkable similarities in the structure of human and snail skin, snail serum is 100% compatible with human skin. That means no allergic reactions, no burning, no redness – BIOBALM is completely safe to use, even on a newborn baby. This compatibility also means that the benefits the snail receives from its own serum can now be experienced by YOU.
A Biological Adaptogen: Helps to Strengthen The Skin. Increases Skin’s Capacity to Adapt Naturally to Environmental Stresses
Adaptogen is a term for nature’s gifts that have the ability to produce suitable adjustments in our body, at the cellular level, and work by helping us to protect the body from various kinds of stress and stimulate the body’s own self-regeneration process. These agents support the body’s immune system and thus regulate body processes and help us move towards true health and to stay there. An adaptogen is a natural remedy that helps bolster our innate resistance to disease and helps to prevent stress from taking a devastating toll on our nervous, hormonal and immune systems as well as increase the energy levels of the body. Adaptogens tend to normalize body functions, and when the job is completed, they are eliminated or incorporated into the body without side effects and do not harm the body unlike allopathic drugs.
Today, thanks to modern technology, we are able to change the natural environment virtually at will. Air conditioning, indoor lighting, central heating, pesticides, preservatives, petroleum, cars, aeroplanes, polyester and plastics are just a few of the countless amenities we use to adapt the environment to our own needs. Yet however convenient or life-supporting these things may seem in the short-term, they are a two-edged sword, bringing us undesirable side effects in the long term. Some of the most obvious of these are already becoming apparent: smog, the thinning ozone layer, the greenhouse effect and the many heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals that are finding their way into our bloodstream for the first time in the history of our body’s delicate biochemistry. These by products of “The good life” are now creating a major problem for the adaptation and survival of most species and biosystems here on planet earth, and to compound the problem at the very moment when we need more than ever to adapt to a quickly changing and stressful environment.
As a society we seem set on debilitating our body’s natural ability to adapt by constantly forcing the environment to meet our whimsy whims and “needs” instead of vice versa. In Darwinian terms, this does not bode well for our species.
Rene Dubois, the humanist scientist said “This state of adaptedness gives a false sense of security because it does not have a lasting value and does not prepare for the future.” Therefore, it seems that the best course for survival is to increase our adaptability to our environment, not the other way around. In other words, instead of leaning on pharmaceuticals or isolates from natural sources to improve our well being or to fight acne bacteria with chemicals it may be best to strengthen our body, our immune system, ourselves and cultivate a better rapport with nature’s gifts instead of just exploiting whatever we cleverly isolate from nature in the laboratory, and this is where adaptogens can be of great importance.
Fortunately for us there is a class of biological remedies available that can help the body adapt better to its environment, whether that environment be one of many harmful chemical or simply one of rapid change. These nature’s gifts are called adaptogens.
BIOSKINBALM Helps Skin Withstand the Diverse Stresses of Today
Increases the skin’s resistance to adverse influences not by a specific action but by a wide range of biochemical factors by including an organic snail serum adaptogen, that scientific breakdown has discovered it is packed with enzymes, proteins, peptides, co-enzymes, trace elements (Copper, Zinc, Iron & Calcium) and complex sulfated acidic glyco (sugar) molecules, which act in synergy with the other natural ingredients incorporated in the balm to:
moderate skin inflammation through antioxidants and enzymatic dissolution of damaged proteins thereby supporting the immune system
Hyaluronic Acid is contained naturally in the snail serum but we add an additional quantity to our BIOSKINBALM formulation for its capacity to hold 1000 times its weight in water and thus deeply enhance the moisturizing effects of the balm.
When you apply the balm, you will enjoy a level of skin protection and repair like no other product you have tried:
Protection from the effects of UV rays, environmental hazards, pollution, allergens and microorganisms. The regenerative properties in BIOBALM will reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars, acne, Rosacea, skin roughness, stretch marks, rashes, dry skin, eczema, dermatitis, actinic keratosis and keloid scarring. When you use BIOSKINBALM as your routine skin care regimen, this balm not only beautifies, it can relieve your worst skin care problems.
BIOSKINBALM is the only natural skin care product that is NOT merely a concoction of chemical compounds and pharmaceuticals, but rather uses a substance found in Nature that is created by a living being expressly to moisturize protect and – here’s the important part – regenerate its skin.
For thousands of years people in Asia, Africa and South America have used extracts from plants, frog skin or snail secretions to promote healing of wounds, burns and skin infections. Recent advances in medical science have started to unlock the magic of these traditional methods of cure. Discoveries of biologically active peptides and proteins in snail body and mucins (Kubota Y et al., 1985) in frog skin (Zasloff, 1987) and in plants (Broekaert et al., 1995) explain the beneficial effects of these natural treatments. The bioactive peptides are extremely effective against a range of microbes and are therefore named antimicrobial peptides.
Staphylococcus Aureus and other bacteria are present on 90% of eczema cases. Bacteria binds more readily to skin that is inflamed & can make the eczema outbreak worse because of secretions called super-antigens. These allergy-inducing substances activate the immune cells in the skin, causing them to release substances that further increase inflammation. Controlling bacteria on the skin can help control the eczema.
The magic of nature is also part of our own skin defense system
Mammals are born with antimicrobial peptides deployed as an important defense against microbial invasion (Gallo and Nizet, 2003). The skin is a protective interface between internal organs and the outside environment. It is exposed daily to thousands of potential pathogens, a host of toxins and physical stress. In order to face these challenges, skin epithelium functions as a physical barrier and has an active immunological role in the identification of microbes as well as in the production of cytokines and defense molecules such as antimicrobial peptides. The number of reports demonstrating the presence and upregulation of antimicrobial peptides in human skin is increasing and reflects the significance of these peptides in skin protection and treatment.
The fact that the snail glycoconjugates contains glycoproteins that kill bacteria and also naturally induces the expression of endogenous antimicrobial peptides that fight infection has been known for years and scientists have focused on replicating its bioactive molecules (by biosynthesis) in the laboratory. This is a promising new venue for research, creating effective drugs and patenting them, but bringing a drug to clinical trial is time consuming and expensive. It is estimated that it takes $300 million to bring a drug to market. This cost covers every thing from discovery, identification, synthesis and clinical trials. This process may also take 10 or more years to accomplish.
Discovered by keen observation and a fair dose of chance
Fortunately by chance a snail farm in Chile noticed that snail handlers had exceptionally smooth hands, and any cuts, scrapes or abrasions to their hands healed unusually quickly and without scars. By the same time a Doctor in Spain observed that snails secrete mucous when exposed to ionizing radiation (X ray and gamma radiation used for cancer radiotheraphy) and it protects them from degenerative effects.
Their curiosity led them to experiment with the substance on human skin, research on what’s in it and clinical trials. They confirmed the substance yields scar free healing of injuries, cuts, scrapes and restores skin health after bruising caused by cancer radiation treatments and heals skin even after chemical burns. The formulation of a balm and the experience of thousands of people with skin ailing has allowed us to persevere in making the substance available naturally in the form of a non-prescription topical cream (for application on the skin).
The antibacterial factor of the snail mucus is a glycoprotein whose molecular weight (MW) is about 160,000. Comp Biochem Physiol C. 1985; 82(2):345-8. It kills both gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa), but only in their growing states. Studies of the morphology of bacteria affected by the glycoprotein in the secretions have shown that it lengthens the bodies of Escherichia coli by three to seven times, damages the surface of Staphylococcus aureus and sinks its cytoplasmic membranes into the cytoplasm.
By blocking the microbial pathway to the blood stream, this biological complex allows your immune system to heal the damage in an environment similar to that in which a broken bone heals inside the body, thus avoiding costly scar treatments.
Treatment of Skin Irritations & Skin Infections Without the Pitfalls of Most Products
The balm helps to relieve the symptoms of dryness, irritation, rosacea, acne, dermatitis, and eczema, and prevents infections of the skin without the pitfalls of pharmaceutical antibiotics or the side effects of harsh chemicals commonly found in topical skin products.
Skin Regeneration
The biological ingredients in the balm also speeds cell regeneration. And it repairs lesions inflicted to the cells that line the sebum canals by sebum overflow or clogged pores. It regenerates skin afflicted by injuries due to accident, scratching, burns, surgery, dermabrasion, laser, or other causes. It dissolves plugged pores that block sebum outflow and “digests” excess keratin formations found in actinic keratosis and keratosis pilaris by the action of enzymes that break them down into their amino acid components.
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), Antimicrobial Peptides & Skin Regenerating Triggers
The secretions of snails contains sulfated glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), present as protein-free strongly acidic polysaccharides.
GAGs, through their binding and regulation of a large number of ligands and receptors are important mediators of normal and tumor cell behavior, such as proliferation, differentiation, migration, and adhesion. The specific structure of GAG chains and their binding proteins influence tumor cell proliferation, metastasis, and cancer progression. GAGs such as heparin, heparan sulfate, chondroitin sulfate, dermatan sulfate, and hyaluronic acid serve as key biological response modifiers by acting as (1) stabilizers, cofactors, and/or coreceptors for growth factors, cytokines, and chemokines; (2) regulators of enzyme activity; (3) signaling molecules in response to cellular damages, such as wound healing, infection, and tumorigenesis; (4) targets for bacterial, viral, and parasitic virulence factors for attachment, invasion, and immune system; (5) regulators of neurite outgrowth; and (6) anti-inflammatory agent that limits oxidative damage after tissue injury.
In the snail’s body tissues GAGs are primarily located inside granules and in the shell, and are secreted onto the surface as a fluid viscose material. Snail glycosaminoglycan tightly binds divalent copper cations (Cu 2+) and form copper peptides, with skin regeneration properties. The concentration of copper in the snail mucins is notable, but copper peptides have been shown to be active in nanomolar amounts.
Regulation of overgrowth of cells in Keloids
The glycosaminoglycans tumor growth inhibitory activity and fibroblast growth factor regulation may explain why many of our customers who successfully used our product to treat keloid scars, have experienced a quick and significant reduction of keloids, relief from itching and pain and in many cases complete elimination of keloids.
Prevention and Amelioration of Sympthoms of Rosacea
The cream applied to an area affected by rosacea has surprisingly had the effect of improving and diminishing the symptoms of rosacea. Topical application has also helped to prevent outbreaks of rosacea symptoms in people that use it regularly on their face.
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by four distinct clinical stages predominantly affecting the central aspect of the face. The first evidence of rosacea is frequent and intense vasodilation or flushing. Most people progress to a vascular stage characterized by redness of the skin due to congestion of the capillaries (erythema) that can persist for hours or days after a triggering event. Many people remain stabilized at this stage while some progress to an inflammatory stage characterized by a symmetrical array of papules and pustules in addition to the persistent erythema. This stage can often become a chronic condition. A few people, mostly male, can progress to the final stage characterized by swelling or a distinctive hyperplasia (abnormal increase in the amount of cells), especially of the nose.
Rosacea skin care commonly involves topical or oral antibiotics such as metranidazole and compounds such as sulfacetamide, sulfur, and azeliec acid. However, these and other treatments for rosacea are all accompanied by various side effects, are costly, and/or involve long complicated treatment protocols. BIOBALM can relieve Rosacea sympthoms by itself and is also useful with other rosacea treatments as it relieves their undesired side effects.
Regulation of Activity of Cathelicidin Peptides that may Trigger Sympthoms of Rosacea
Dr. Richard Gallo, chief of dermatology, University of California, San Diego, and colleagues have recently concluded that a natural substance that is part of the body’s innate immune system appears to have a role in producing the papules (bumps) and pustules (pimples) of rosacea. (Study funded by the National Rosacea Society (NRS) to uncover potential causes and other key aspects of the disorder during the Fifth Annual Rosacea Research Workshop, 2004, held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Society for Investigative Dermatology).
He noted that the body produces peptides to defend itself from viruses, fungi and bacteria, and speculates that certain peptides known as cathelicidins may be triggered too easily in rosacea patients. The level of the protective cathelicidins was 200 percent to 300 percent higher in rosacea patients, he found. While many types of bacteria may trigger the formation of cathelicidins, he said, they appear to be particularly sensitive to the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, which has been linked with rosacea in some studies.
The researchers have also noticed that while the peptide is inactive when it is first made on the skin surface, enzymes in sweat cause it to become active. They concluded that cathelicidins may stimulate the production of bumps and pimples in rosacea, possibly in connection with H. pylori and other bacterial triggers.
Interestingly the GAGs is the snail mucus play a role in regulating the activity and expression of those endogenous peptides and act as important defense molecules against rapidly growing bacteria. This may explain testimonials of customers that have lost or kept down the redness caused by rosacea or eczema by using the balm.
Regulation of Blood Vessel Growth in Rosacea
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a regulator of blood vessel growth that may be associated with sun exposure, is highly expressed in the sebaceous glands of people with rosacea according to Dr. Thiboutot (Fifth Annual Rosacea Research Workshop, 2004). She noted that previous research has found VEGF may be involved in the formation of visible blood vessels in rosacea, and that rosacea patients may therefore be especially sensitive to sunlight.
In an ongoing study, researchers demonstrated that neuropeptides — substances produced by nerves or other cells in the skin — and ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation (found in sunlight) appear to induce the expression of VEGF. Dr. Richard Granstein, chairman of dermatology at Cornell University, reported that small amounts of UVB, the type of sunlight that causes sunburn, appear to increase VEGF expression in endothelial cells — that is, cells that line blood vessels.
In addition, UVB caused an increase in interleukin 8, which plays a role in inflammation. The peptide somatostatin, however, had an inhibiting effect on interleukin and on VEGF production in certain skin cells known as keratinocytes. The relationship to rosacea is still being explored.
Research done in 2003 has noted that in culture of human vascular endothelial cells, snail GAGs at 10 and 100 micro g ml(-1) inhibited VEGF-induced capillary tube formation. These findings suggest that the inhibitory effect of the snail GAGs on the formation of new cappilaries networks from pre-existing blood vessels is due to the inhibition of excessive VEGF-induced vascular tube formation without affecting its production. This may explain reports of rosacea sufferers that have found relief by applying the balm twice a day on the areas affected and others who have used it to prevent further rosacea outbreaks.
Heals Dermatitis Caused by Exposure to Ionizing Radiotherapy for Cancer – Radiodermatitis
An in depth investigation conducted in Spain, in 2000 and 2001, studied the effects of snail secretion in the topical treatment of radiodermatitis, and confirmed the presence of antioxidant and fibroblast growth factor activity in the snail secretion and its excellent results to prevent and treat radiodermatitis when applied to patients undergoing ionizing radiation therapy for the control of malignant cells.
Results show the presence of antioxidant activities in the snail secretion: enzymatic as superoxide dismutase (SOD), conjugation enzymes as glutathione-S-transferase and low molecular weight antioxidants. The antioxidant activities of the secretion can inhibit or impair the proliferation of free radicals which can stop the domino effect of spreading cellular reactions.
The study also shows, without doubt, the presence of Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGB) like activity with a cell protection function. The secretion improves cellular function and the natural regenerative processes of the skin matrix, making skin healthier and stronger. At the same time, the degradation of damaged proteins brought about by the enzymes in the secretion offers an addition to the antioxidants in protecting the skin from inflammatory agents. And moisture holding molecules in the secretion return skin moisture, comforting dry skin brought by ionizing radiation.
The secret of BIOSKINBALM is not only that it provides the normal ingredients which may be deficient in the skin, but also restores the skin renewal process by stimulating the germinal cells. The result is a healthier appearance of the skin with more thickness, a normal skin color, normal skin texture and normal skin tissue turgor.
BIOSKINBALM means clearer skin – skin you can touch, skin you can kiss, skin you are not ashamed to show the world, whether you’re out shopping, in a business meeting, at school or at the beach. You can use BIOSKINBALM with confidence, knowing it is made with healthful snail serum along with all-natural ingredients designed to replenish the moisture barrier of your skin. BIOSKINBALM is fragrance-free and contains all natural preservatives.
BIOSKINBALM also helps in the quick recovery of healthy skin after procedures such as laser surgery, microdermabrasion or chemical peels.
BIOSKINBALM speeds skin renewal
After a wound, lesion or inflammatory response has occurred to the skin, both skin cells and connective tissue cells (fibroblasts) begin multiplying to repair the damage. The fibroblasts form a framework upon which the skin cells can migrate into and fill in the wound.
It is the balance between the rate of replication of fibroblasts versus skin cells that is IMPORTANT here. If the fibroblasts replicate too quickly, they can form a dense network that is not as easily penetrated by the skin cells and that results in a large thick scar. If the skin cells keep up with the fibroblasts, then little scar tissue is formed and the skin has a more normal appearance after the wound has healed.
Thus, to get good results it is IMPERATIVE skin healing progresses at more than a snail’s pace, and here is where BIOSKINBALM plays a role: for it SPEEDS the PROCESS OF DAMAGED SKIN RENEWAL.
